Well this last week was an adventure for us and exciting at the same time. A couple weeks ago we ordered our hardwood flooring which took almost three weeks to come and has been sitting in the living room for a week. So this week, I was on Spring Break, we did the prep work Monday and got to work early Tuesday morning after I dropped Brendan off at daycare. We were fast and got all the carpets ripped out before the trashmen arrived. My dad was scheduled to come down to help out but unfortunately he got a stomach bug and wasn’t able to come down. Tuesday we spent most of the day doing prep work like removing tack strips, removing baseboards and getting up as much from the concrete as possible.
Tuesday was Brendan’s first day at daycare in a week, remember last week he was sick, and he did great going. I thought he might cry because it had been awhile but his teachers greeted us at the door and he was happy to go with them. 🙂 He learned a lot and enjoyed playing with his friends. We also asked them if they could take him an extra day this week since we were working on the house. They said yup it was no problem to keep him for an extra day.
Wednesday we were again up early, took Brendan over to daycare again and then got to work on the floors. We put down a section of vapor barrier and got to putting down the floor. We knew right away that we loved it so with each new row we would just say over and over again how much we loved it. I also really like doing projects like this with Devin because we work well together 🙂 It’s also helpful that Devin is very handy and smart too 🙂 Devin put the wood down and I was in charge of cutting the pieces after he measured them. We worked from about 8am until 530 pm, got about 90% of the living room done, when we went to pick up Brendan. Once Brendan was home we kept him upstairs because the first floor was to dangerous.
I did also get this cute video of Brendan while he was eating his snack for the night.
Thursday Brendan was back at daycare again and we were back to work on the floors. We worked the same hours as Wednesday got the majority of the dining room done, I went to get Brendan and Devin continued working on the last bit of the floors. When Brendan came in his reaction was so funny and cute he was like “WoW!” he just kept walking around going Wow and then was watching Devin like he was his boss or something haha.
Thursday the floors were done, so just about 16 hours from start to finish. We still have to do the baseboards, threshholds and quarter round but otherwise it’s all done. We are so happy to have the hardwood floors and think they make the house look bigger 🙂
Now the search for the perfect area rug and wood floor mop begins 🙂
